The prophets of old foretold your birth among us,
-now make virtue come to life in us.
We proclaim your saving work,
 -now grant us your salvation.
You came to heal the contrite,
-heal the weaknesses of your people.
You came and saw fit to reconcile the world,

To Christ our Lord, who humbled himself for our sake, we joyfully say:

Lord Jesus, by your coming you rescued the world from sin,

Do not judge harshly,
-those you redeemed with such great cost.
No age, O Christ is without your goodness and holy riches,
-enable us to merit the unfading crown of glory.
Lord, to you we commend the souls of your departed servants,
-having died to the world, may they be alive in you for ever.

 Show us your mercy, Lord!
Father most merciful, we confess our faith in your Christ with our words,

Our land looks forward with delight to the approach of your Son,
-let it experience the fullness of your joy.
Through your mercy make us live holy and chaste lives in this world,

 Come, Lord Jesus!
Our Redeemer and Lord, by your birth as a man you freed us from the yoke of the law,
-complete in us the works of your loving kindness.
From us you took whatever served your divinity,
-give us whatever we need to serve you.
Grant the desire we ask of you today,
-inflame our hearts with the fire of your love.
On earth we live with you by faith,
-in glory may we rejoice with you.
Steep the souls of the faithful departed,
-in the dew of your loving kindness.

To Christ our Lord, the light of the world, let us cry out with joy:
 Come, Lord Jesus!
Dispel our darkness with the light of your presence,
-and make us worthy of your gifts.
Save us, Lord our God,
-that we may praise your holy name this day.
Enkindle in our hearts the flame of your love,
-and make us long to be united with you.
You bore our infirmity,
-aid the sick and those who are to die this day.

To Christ our Redeemer, who will come again to free from the power of death all those who return to him, let us humbly pray:
 Come, Lord Jesus!
As we proclaim your coming, Lord,
-cleanse our hearts of every vain desire.
Lord, may the Church which you founded,
-proclaim your greatness to all peoples.
Your law is a light to our eyes,
-let it protect those who trust in you.
You allow the joys of your coming to be foretold to us by your Church,
-may we receive you with eager devotion

Help us to keep the precepts of your law with the strength of the Spirit,
-and to look forward in love to your coming.
You are praised throughout the ages; in your mercy help us to love devoutly and temperately in this life,
-as we wait in joyful hope for the revelation of your glory.

Jesus is Lord, born of the Virgin Mary.  Let us pray to him with joyful hearts:
 Come, Lord Jesus!
Son of God, you will come again as the true messenger of the covenant.
-help the world to recognize and accept you.
Born in your Father’s heart, you became man in the womb of the Virgin Mary,
-free us from the tyranny of change and decay.
In your life on earth, you came to die as a man,
 -save us from everlasting death.
When you come to judge, show us your loving mercy,
 -and forgive us our weaknesses.
Lord Jesus, by your death you have given hope to those who have died,
-be merciful to those for whom we now pray.

With confidence let us call upon Christ, the shepherd and guardian of our souls:
 Lord, have mercy on us.
Good shepherd of God’s flock,
 -gather all into your Church.
Lord Jesus, help the shepherds of your pilgrim people,
-until you come again may they zealously feed your flock.
Choose from among us heralds of your word,
-to proclaim your Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Take pity on all who struggle and fall along the way,
-may they find a friend to help them.

To Christ, the great light promised by the prophets to those who live in the shadow of death, let us raise our voices in prayer:
 Come, Lord Jesus.
Word of God, in the beginning you created all things and in the fullness of time assumed our nature,
-come and deliver us from death.
True light, shining on mankind,
 -come and dispel our darkness.
Only-begotten Son, dwelling in the Father’s heart,
-come and tell us of God’s loving kindness.
Christ Jesus, you come among us as the Son of Man,
-transform those who know you into the sons of God.
You welcome all who call upon you in need,
-bring into your wedding feast those who beg at the door.

Let us pray to God the Father, who sent his Son to bring us endless peace:
 Lord, your kingdom come.
Father most holy, look kindly on your Church,
-come and visit this vine which your own right hand has planted.
Be mindful, Lord, of all the sons of Abraham,
-fulfill the promises you made to their fathers.
Merciful God, look kindly upon men and women of every race,
-may they honor you for your goodness.
Eternal Shepherd, visit the sheep of your flock,
-and gather them together into one fold.
Remember those who have gone forth from this world in your peace,
-lead them into glory with your Son.

who look forward to his coming.
Let us call upon him and say:

 - Come and bring together those who long to see you face to face.

To Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, the way, the truth, and the life,
Let us make our humble prayer:
Come and stay with us, Lord.
Son of the Most High, your coming was announced
to the Virgin Mary by Gabriel,
 - Come and rule over your people for ever.
Holy One of God, in your presence John the Baptist
leapt in Elizabeth’s womb,
 - Bring the joy of salvation to all the earth.
Jesus the Savior, the angel revealed your name
to Joseph the just man,
 - Come and save your people from their sins.
Light of the world, for whom Simeon and all the just waited,
 - Come and comfort us.
O Rising Sun that never sets, Zechariah foretold
that you would visit us from above,

    and the shadow of death.

We humbly pray to Jesus Christ, who rescues us from the darkness of sin, and in faith we cry out:
 Come, Lord Jesus!
Lord, gather together all the people of the earth,
-and establish with them your everlasting covenant.
Lamb of God, you came of old to take away the sin of the world,
-purge us from the dregs of our guilt.
You came to recover what was lost,
-come once again in your mercy lest you punish what you have recovered.
Our faith seeks you out,
-let us find everlasting joy with you when you come.
You will judge the living and the dead,
-graciously gather the dead into the ranks of the blessed

To Christ, our Lord and Redeemer, who will appear openly on the last day, let us joyfully pray:

To Christ our Lord, judge of the living and the dead, let us cry out with faith:
 Come, Lord Jesus!
Lord, may the world know your justice which the heavens proclaim,
-may your glory fill the earth.
For us you took upon yourself the weakness of man,
-protect us with the strength of your own divine life.
Come to those imprisoned in the darkness of ignorance,
-show them the radiance of your own divine light.
In your humility as a man, you took away our sin,
-now in your glory grant us true happiness.
When you come in glory to judge us,
-gather the dead into your kingdom.

To Christ the Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, let us pray with joyful hearts:
 Come, Lord Jesus!
Lord Jesus, in the mystery of your incarnation you revealed your glory to the world,
-give us new life by your coming.
You have taken our weakness upon yourself,
 -grant us your mercy.
You redeemed the world from sin by your first coming in humility,
-free us from all guilt when you come again in glory.
You live and rule over all,
-in your goodness bring us to our eternal inheritance.
You sit at the right hand of the Father,
-gladden the souls of the dead with your light.

Let us pray to God our Father, who from of old has called his people to salvation:
 Lord, protect your people.
You promised to plant the seed of justice among your people,
-protect the holiness of your Church.
Lord, teach all men and women to listen to your word,
-and help believers to persevere in holiness.
Keep us in the love of your Spirit,
-that we may receive the mercy of your Son who is to come.
Father most merciful, strengthen us to the last,
-until the day of the coming of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through his Son, God the Father revealed his glory to men and women.  Therefore, let our joyful cry resound:
Lord, may your name be glorified.
Teach us, Lord, to love each other,
-as Christ loved us for God’s glory.
Fill us with all joy and peace in faith,
-that we may walk in the hope and strength of the Holy Spirit.
Help all mankind, Lord, in your loving mercy,
-be near to those who seek you without knowing it.
You call and sanctify the elect,
-though we are sinners, crown us with eternal happiness.

Christ is the wisdom and power of God, and his delight is to be with the children of men.  With confidence let us pray:
 Draw near to us, Lord.
Lord Jesus Christ, you have called us to your glorious kingdom,
-make us walk worthily, pleasing God in all we do.
You who stand unknown among us,
-reveal yourself to men and women.
You are nearer to us than we to ourselves,
-strengthen our faith and our hope of salvation.
You are the source of holiness,
-keep us holy and without sin now and until the day of your coming.

To God our Father, who has given us the grace
to wait in joyful hope for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Let us make our prayer:
  Show us your mercy, Lord.
Sanctify us in mind and body,
 - Keep us without sin until the coming of your Son.
Make us walk this day in holiness,
 - And live upright and devout lives in this world.
May we be clothed in our Lord Jesus Christ,
 - And filled with the Holy Spirit.
Lord, help us to stand watchful and ready,
 - Until your Son is revealed in all his glory.

Christ the Lord, Son of the living God, light from light,
leads us into the light and reveals his holiness.
With confidence let us make our prayer:
 Come, Lord Jesus.
Light that never fades, dispel the mists about us,
 - Awaken our faith from sleep.
Guard us from all harm today,
 - May your glory fill us with joy.
Give us unfailing gentleness at all times,
 - Toward everyone we meet.
Come to create a new earth for us,
 - Where there will be justice and peace.

God the almighty Father stretches forth his hand again
to take possession of the remnant of his people.
Let us make our prayer to him:
 Lord, may your kingdom come.
Lord, grant that our works of penance may please you,
 - And that we may be ready for your kingdom which is so near.
Prepare a path in our hearts for the coming of your Word,
 - And let his glory be revealed among us.
Bring low the mountains of our pride,
 - And fill up the valleys of our weakness.
Break down the wall of hatred that divides the nations,
 - And make level for mankind the paths to peace.

The Word of God humbled himself to dwell with us
so that we might see his glory.
Rejoicing in hope, let us call upon him:
 Emmanuel, be with us.
Ruler, just and righteous,
 - Bring justice to the poor and the oppressed.
King of peace, you beat swords into plowshares
and spears into pruning hooks,
 - Turn hatred into love and our grievances into forgiveness.
You do not judge by appearances,
 - Recognize those who are your own.
When you come with power and might upon the clouds,
-Grant that we may come before you without shame.

To the eternal Word who became man to reveal to us
the new and living way,
Let us make our humble prayer:
 Come, Lord, and save us.
God, in whom we live and move and have our being,
 - Come and teach us that you have made us your own.
You are not far from each of us,
 - Show yourself to all who search for you.
Father of the poor and consoler of the afflicted,
 - Set captives free, give joy to those who mourn.
You hate death and love life,
 - Free all mankind from eternal death.

We cry to the Lord, who will come to bring us salvation:
 Come, Lord, and save us.
Lord Jesus Christ, our God, Savior of all,
 - Come swiftly and save us.
Lord, by your coming into this world,
 - Free us from the sin of the world.
You came from the Father,
 - Show us the path that leads to him.
You were conceived by the Holy Spirit,
 - By your word renew the same Spirit in our hearts.
You became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
 - Free our bodies from corruption.
Lord, be mindful of all men,
 - Who from the beginning of time
have placed their trust in you.
