Kathy Kanavy
Associate Director, The Institute for Priestly Formation (IPF) at Creighton University
More about me:

I am a single lay woman working with a very gifted group of priests, religious, single and married persons in an Institute that has been founded to assist in the spiritual formation of diocesan seminarians and priests.  We offer a ten-week program for seminarians in the summer at Creighton and also a three-week training program for seminary spiritual directors.  Throughout the remainder of the year, we travel to seminaries and dioceses to offer retreats and other programs for seminarians and priests.

What stirs my heart most deeply is that the "different calls to holiness" complement each other and evoke the richest part of our hearts as we are focused in a particular way on the strengthening of diocesan priests.  Our work leads us to people and places where we are privileged to walk with men who are sincerely seeking God in laying their lives down in the service of others.  I wish more people could see the goodness of these men, particularly in a time when there is so much "negative press" on priests and seminarians.  In this work, I serve as a spiritual director, and do supervision and training of others in the art of spiritual direction.

I am also a musician and have been doing liturgical music for many years.  Scranton, PA is my native home and I have lived at Creighton full-time since 1996.

Writing these reflections:

In writing these Online Reflections, I am struck by the humility of so many people seeking to read what others have to say and I am struck by the wealth that each of the authors have to offer.  I am deeply awed when people respond to my words;  I receive far more from them than they ever know!
