Isaiah 7:1-9
Psalm 48:2-3, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8
Matthew 11:20-24

Imagine…

Can you see Jesus as He stands in the village square?
Can you see His frustration,
     His anger,
     His despair?

These are His people,
they have seen Him heal the sick,
they have heard Him cast out demons,
they have witnessed His power in an endless array of miracles.
Yet, they turn away,
indifferent to the presence of God in their midst.

How He must hurt.
     The love he feels,
     the love he is,
rejected, ignored, dismissed by hardened hearts.

Foolish people!
Why don’t you see?
Why don’t you bow down
in the presence of such awesome mystery?

Today,
I know better.
I see His face,
I know His love,
I heed His voice.

Or, do I?
Am I listening
or hearing only what is convenient,
only what fits with my understanding?
Are my eyes truly open
     to the miracles around me,
     or am I squinting,
     holding the light at bay?
No, I too veer from the path.
I too require grace.

Gracious God,
Open my heart and spirit,
Let me heed Love’s call in my life,
in the miracles that come in each day.
May it be so.
