Thomas Lenz

Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice
Director, Center for Health Promotion and Well-Being

More about me:

I was born and raised in Carroll, Iowa and came to Creighton as an undergraduate student in 1988…and have never left. I am proud to say that I have graduated from three programs at Creighton (so far) and have been employed full-time since 1999. Creighton is home to me in many ways and after 25+ years I still look forward to coming to campus every day.

My professional formation looks somewhat like a scatter plot. My bachelor’s and master’s degrees are in exercise science (1992 from Creighton and 1995 from Univ. of Nebraska-Omaha, respectively) and during my graduate work I remained at Creighton teaching part-time in the Department of Exercise Sciences. After finishing graduate school I completed a PharmD degree at Creighton in 1999 which was then followed by a two-year fellowship in cardiovascular research in the School of Medicine at Creighton. And, just this year I went back to graduate school (also at Creighton) earning a master’s in medical anthropology. My academic home is in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and in 2015 I started a new role as the Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Well-Being.

While an undergraduate student at Creighton I met the love of my life, Nancy, a native of Omaha. We were married in 1993 and have four children: Kaelie (19), Abbey (17), Jack (11), and Luke (8). We love to do family activities that include all things outdoors, especially running, yard football, and water skiing.

Writing these reflections:

Writing for the Daily Reflections is a wonderful opportunity to slow the pace of daily life and simply write. Reflective writing is something that I have come to love and is truly a gift from God.
