The Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle

Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
O God, who assigned Saint Matthias
a place in the college of Apostles,
grant us, through his intercession,
that, rejoicing at how your love has been allotted to us,
we may merit to be numbered among the elect.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Today's Readings
Acts 1:15-17, 20-22; Psalm 113:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8; 1 John 4:7-10; John 15:9-17

Daily Meditation:

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love. John 15

St. Matthias was chosen to fill the place of Judas, to fill out the Twelve Apostles.
In some ways, we can see him as a patron for all of us
who step in to be a servant of our Lord for others.

Jesus gives us the gift of tremendous love.
He simply asks to remain in his love,
to make our home in him, as he makes his home in us.

We can ask for these graces today.

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain. John 15

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:

God the almighty Father raised Jesus as the firstborn from the dead, and made him our Savior. Let us call upon him, saying:

Give us, Lord, the glory of your Son.

All-holy Father, you brought your beloved Son Jesus from the darkness of death into the splendor of your glory,
- bring us also into your marvelous light.

You have given us faith to save us,
- may we live by the faith of our baptism.

You command us to seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at your right hand,
- do not let us be deceived by the allurements of sin.

May our life, hidden with Christ in you, our Father, shine before the world,
- foreshadowing a new heaven and a new earth.

Closing Prayer:
Dear Jesus, on this Feast of this added Apostle, Matthias,
I thank you for numbering me among your Apostles.

Help me to remain in your love,
each and every day,
in the midst of the things you ask of me,
in the ways you ask me to witness to your own
merciful love for others.
I ask this with faith in the power of your Spirit among us.

Amen.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
