Just to keep it short and sweet:

The second reading calls attention to some of the early leaders of the church. In the form of a simple prayer, we give praise and thanks to Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy for their contributions to the church and for allowing God to lead them through their works of faith.  
I think it is important to keep the people that have impacted our faith in mind today, for they have provided us with a strong foundation for our religious beliefs.  Perhaps we should each take a quick moment of reflection or a say a little prayer for the individuals who we are truly grateful for who have influenced our spiritual lives.
