I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and entered the Society of Jesus in 1967.  I received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan in 1985, and began teaching at Creighton that year.  I am currently Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration with responsibility for undergraduate programs and internal operations. 

My expertise includes international economics, especially trade theory and policy, political economy, and social ethics.  During the 1991-92 school year I was Visiting Associate Professor of Economics at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.  I hold a Masters of Sacred Theology degree in social ethics and a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California, and a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from St. Louis University.  I teach courses in micro and macro theory, international economics, international finance, current economic issues, economic history and the history of economic thought.  I also work with various Jesuit groups regarding socially responsible investing. 

I currently live with three other Jesuits in a small community on the north side of Omaha.  I like to play basketball, run, play guitar and sing, and take long walks. 
 

When I prepare a homily, I jot down an outline, memorize that, and talk from that, so it seems strange to write out my reflections word for word.  I'm just happy that people find them helpful.
