Laura A. Weber, Ph.D. Coming to Creighton in 1997 was one of the happiest accidents of
my vocation! I have been so blessed to teach Scripture for the Theology
Department since that time, and have met and become friends with many
fantastic students over the years. The faculty and staff at Creighton
are not only my respected colleagues and mentors, but many of them
are dear companions on a mysterious journey. Having made my way through
two other Midwestern Jesuit universities, it is wonderful to call
Creighton and Omaha my home. My serving as Director of Campus Ministry
gives me the opportunity to implement our University's mission in
an integral way, by fostering students' faith development in light
of their intellectual formation. What a phenomenal gift to work with
such a committed, dynamic ministry team to accompany and nourish our
students on their journeys of faith! |

More about me: I was raised in South St. Louis,
Missouri in a big, wonderful German-Catholic family. Consequently,
I am a rabid baseball Cardinals and Blues hockey fan who can scream
at sporting events as loud as any of my brothers, except Bob. Since
I spent almost a decade in Milwaukee, WS I am also an unabashed Packers
football fan. Don't get me started about how professional sports relates
to my love of Scripture… It's an unholy alliance! I'm also a
founding member of the Ignatian Associates of the Wisconsin Province
of the Society of Jesus, a delightfully diverse group of lay people
specially committed to the apostolic missions of the Jesuits. Click

Writing these reflections: Since my formal educational
training is in biblical theology, it is always a challenge for me
to write the daily Scripture reflections with a modicum of restraint
in using the technical jargon of my trade. It is not easy for a Bible
geek to "back away from the Greek, and put down the exegetical
tools," to say something that people might be able to relate
to in their own lives. Still, I find it incredible that the Good News
continues to shock and console me on a daily basis, and I hope readers
will feel the heat and revel in the Mystery with me. Thanks for taking
me along in your daily reflection!. |
