Carrie Pogge Wortmann

I am in my third year serving as the Director of Magis Catholic Teacher Corps in the Education Department.

Magis is two-year volunteer program centered on community living, academic coursework, and Ignatian Spirituality that prepares and supports highly motivated, faith-filled teachers to serve in under-resourced Catholic schools.

More about me:

I'm a native of Omaha and one of many family members to attend Creighton University.  I credit my family and my education for the commitment to faith and justice that I have today. As a Creighton undergraduate I studied Spanish and Justice and Peace Studies.  After volunteering abroad for a year after graduation, I entered into the field of Education teaching Spanish, Social Justice and Morality, and working in Campus Ministry.  I truly believe that committed educators can and do change the world, which is one of the reasons why I love my job as Director of Magis Catholic Teacher Corps.

My husband, Jay, and I welcomed our first child, a son, in October 2012.  What a journey of faith it has been as new parents!

Writing these reflections:

As an undergraduate student at Creighton University I was first exposed to the Jesuits and the beauty of Ignatian Spirituality.  Working with Magis Catholic Teacher Corps, a post-graduate volunteer teaching program that is rooted in Ignatian Spirituality, and working at Creighton have provided me the opportunity to grow in my faith in ways I never expected.  When I was invited to write these reflections my first reaction was "what could I possibly offer?", but hopefully through honest reflections I can connect the reading to the reality of our daily lives. I look forward to sharing with you.
