Dt 26:16-19
Ps 119:1-2, 4-5, 7-8
Mt 5:43-48

“Today you are making this agreement with the LORD: he is to be your God and you are to walk in his ways and observe his statutes, commandments and decrees, and to hearken to his voice.” -1 Dt 26:16

Can you imagine making an agreement with the Lord? Just like you sign contracts, make promises, and give a loved one or friend your word, you are making an agreement. What would it be like to do the same thing with God every single day?

Every morning you wake up as God’s child, you are living out a mutual promise. The Lord’s promise to us is to love us and care for us as the Lord’s child; our promise to the Lord is to live in accordance to the statutes, commandments, and decrees that we find in the Bible and we feel in our hearts as given to us by God. Being very blessed to be a college student, I am constantly surrounded by temptations. I am only human and to have the strength to say no takes more than my own self-control; I turn to God for some strength, too.

As the third reading instructed us, you shall love your enemy. “So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Gospel Mt. 5:48). Love everyone as you love God. As difficult as it may be at times, think of how powerful a little love is. To love all, including your enemies is the most beautiful thing! Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
