Student Daily Reflection

Upon reading today’s passages, a message of understanding overcomes me. This is a message which each person can almost undoubtedly relate to in some way or another, on some level or another, with some experience or another.

The first reading reminds us of our “great and awesome God” who continually keeps His promise, His merciful promise, to those whom He cares about so dearly.

The responsorial psalm goes on to ask for God’s compassion. It reiterates the fact that we are only human, and with that being the case, we are not perfect. Thus, we ask for God’s understanding and compassion when we fall short.

The gospel pushes us to “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” This leaves us with a challenge. It leaves us with a sense of Magis – striving for more.

While going through today’s readings, I think of the times that I have failed to stop and try to understand the things that are occurring around me. Oftentimes, we may have the tendency to not acknowledge the situations that people are in; we forget that we are all human and make mistakes; and we may hold grudges. After reflecting on today’s readings, we are called to do all of these things and be more understanding and merciful. Perhaps we can let this be our Lenten challenge for today.
