“The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 Jn 3:1

Recognition. It’s a life long journey to find out who I am as well as to find out who others are. We are given a starting point in the second reading in that we are “the children of God.” (1 Jn 3:1) It’s easy to say this, but how do I come to believe this and where do I go from there? I’ve been trying to figure this out for a long while now, especially now as I’m starting to get more and more pressured to choose a major.

One thing I do recognize is that we all are children of God. We’re all connected through this. From this connectedness I feel called to be with and help those who I can. I find these experiences humbling. I see how fortunate I am and how lucky I am to be where I am. From this humility is one of the ways in which I am able to attain purity to some degree. But where do I go with this?

In a world where so many people, myself included, struggle with recognizing people for who they are. How do I recognize God, in order to recognize others for who they really are?
