It is amazing how certain scriptural passages can speak to its readers during such ideal times! I would imagine that “certain passage” comes to most of our minds right away.

Today’s readings are a great example of a passage that can speak to many people perfectly, especially at this point in time. Whether you are a student approaching the middle of the semester, a parent providing support for your children, or a businessperson working during such trying economic times… this passage is a perfect reminder that we are never alone:

I have learned, in whatever situation I find myself, to be self-sufficient.
I know indeed how to live in humble circumstances;
I know also how to live with abundance.
In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need.
I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.

The last verse really speaks to me. As I near the middle of my first semester of professional school, I often times feel overwhelmed and as though I can’t do it and am alone. This reminds me that I can do it, but only with the Lord’s help. It also reminds me that I am not the only one who is struggling. We each have our own challenges and handle them in different ways. The important thing is to remember with the Lord’s aid, we can successfully handle whatever burden or challenge may come upon us and grow in doing so.
