It seems as if it is that time of year again. The time when classes get completely overwhelming with projects and finals, people surround us, and every night has a new commitment that brings a new challenge. As much as this time of year should be joyous with the U.S. Thanksgiving just past, I can't help but think in our society, we are so stressed with everything the holidays bring that we forget to be thankful. I know I do: with already three Thanksgiving meals and one more yet this weekend, the next few weeks will be very challenging with transitions, last chances for my classes, and the disappointment of not seeing people I want to celebrate with. We all are guilty of losing sight of what really matters and need new beginnings.

After reading today's passages, I realized in an odd way they are about new beginnings. In the first reading, I found it beautiful these people were able to take something so hurtful and turn it into a celebration to be remembered forever. Even in the Gospel, the people who made the temple "a den of thieves" started anew when they "hang on His words." The faith these people have is inspiring because it takes a great amount of strength to start over on anything, especially a community and even more so, with yourself. In the inspiration is a challenge for us all to live by and is perfect timing with the holidays right around the corner.

We all need a new beginning and time to start fresh whether it is in a project, relationship with someone we love, relationship with ourselves, or our faith. It is up to us to take that leap of faith and challenge ourselves to renew our faith in what we do and who we are meant to become. There is no time better than the present to start again in love and thanks and leave behind the worry and regret. Embrace what God has given us each and every day.
