Kyle Lierk

Director of Campus Ministry

More about me:

I grew up in the shadow of Carhenge (http://carhenge.com/) on the Sandhills of Nebraska in a town called Alliance.  Faith, honesty and trust were fixtures in my family’s home.  I arrived at Creighton as an undergraduate student in the mid-90s and had every intention of making boatloads of money as a partner in an accounting firm..then the Jesuits taught me the ways of Ignatian spirituality.  Ignatius’ suscipe prayer of surrender which begins “Take, Lord, receive…” changed my life.

From Creighton I joined the Jesuit Volunteers International.  Their motto “ruined for life” continues to haunt me in the best way possible.  I am married to my best friend, Meredith, and we moved to Omaha in 2014 from the San Francisco Bay Area where we met studying Theology and Ministry at the Jesuit school in Berkeley.  While we sing in unison with Tony Bennett that we left a piece of our hearts in San Francisco, a big piece of our hearts are right here -- both Meredith and I have living and deceased ancestors in Omaha.

Hiking and camping in mountains, reading poetry by Rumi and Ted Kooser, and watching documentaries are a few of my favorite things.

I am the Director of Campus Ministry at Creighton and it is an honor to be serving the community which had such a tremendous impact on my formative years as an emerging adult.  I guess you can say I am here to give the good people of Creighton the return on their investment.

Writing these reflections:
I am humbled by the opportunity to contribute to the larger conversation and reflection at play on this website.  Praying with God’s love story of scripture is an absolute thrill. I delight in the ways that divine voice breaks through in our lives.
