Whispers From the Streets

Whispers from the Streets, is a presentational play,
promoting social awareness
on the issue of the poverty stricken and homeless in America.

The play is a culmination of a year long research project with subsequent research over a decade to capture the routine trials and conflicts of the severely poor. Together we take a journey as we discover a transformation from intolerance to solidarity and the individuals and circumstances that take us there. Through a series of monologues and song, stories are shared to encourage, advocate change, and to generate awareness of the men and women who are often whispers on the streets.

Homelessness from many points of view is the focus of a powerful play written by Damian Torres-Botello, nSJ. Damian is a Jesuit novice brother who is spending the semester working in the Creighton Center for Service & Justice. He co-authored this "readers' theater" piece for a group in Kansas City and has updated it with Omaha information and references.
