[253] Dan 3:14-20, 91-92, 95
Dan 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56
John 8:31-42

In today’s gospel reading, Jesus says, “if you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

This is a beautiful verse, and is a reoccurring theme in a many of Jesus’ messages. When I continued on in the passage though, I read a line that broke my heart a little bit. Jesus goes on to tell his disciples, “my word has no room among you.”

This really struck a chord with me. Do I have room in my life for the word? Between juggling the chaos of school, work, family, and friends, it is so easy to fill our calendars with activities from sunup to sundown every single day. That’s the reality of our modern lives. While all of these things are great, this reading reminds us that maybe we need to make room for one more thing. After all, Jesus’ word is the truth, and the truth sets us free. Making time for the word doesn’t have to mean cutting out other things, it might just be carving out a few minutes of every day to reflect on whether or not we are hearing God’s word in our lives.
