Matt 1:20b-23 or John 2:1-15 or John 19:25-27

In Matthew, Jesus talks about the parable of the lost sheep.  He says that a shepherd will leave his 99 safe sheep behind and go out to find his one lost sheep.  That passage came to my mind today when I was looking at today’s reading from John.  These two passages are a great example of our Christian life.  At first, we are lost and alone, in danger of all the “wolves” lurking in the woods.  It is then that Jesus comes to find us because we mean so much to Him.  After He brings us home, we follow Him.  He protects us when we are with Him because He is the gate which keeps out the evils of the world.  When our Shepherd calls us, we follow Him and we owe it all to the fact that He loved us enough to rescue us, to seek us out when we are at our lowest, when we are so lost and alone that we feel that there is no hope.  I heard a great quote today: sometimes God lets you hit rock bottom so that you will discover that He is the rock at the bottom.  It reminds me that, even when things seem hard, we have a protector who will come to our aid—a Savior who will do anything to bring us closer to Him.  On days when all seems lost, these words bring all the comfort that we need.
