A History of the AJCU Mission & Identity Conference

The Mission & Identity Conference had it's inception at Creighton University, when two colleagues, Jack Zuercher, S.J. and Joan Lanahan first mulled over the idea of gathering colleagues from the other Jesuit universities to talk about our shared mission and identity. George Traub, S. J., who was a part of that first gathering, has compiled a list of each of the annual meetings since then.

Jack Zuercher, S.J.

Jack Zuercher, S.J. of Creighton University and Joan Lanahan, formed the Collaborative Ministry Office at Creighton University in 1988. From the beginning, they had a sense that all of us in this work would be better if we could share our ideas.

In October, 2009, Jack sat down in front of a video camera and shared his memories of those early days of Mission & Identity work, who the pioneers in the field were at the time and what the challenges were.

We remain grateful to Jack, Joan, George Traub, S.J., Jim Blumeyer, S.J. and all of the others whose vision created this group.
