[345] Sir 6:5-17
Ps 119:12, 16, 18, 27, 34, 35
Mark 10:1-12.

Today’s readings call us to surround ourselves with the proper company that allows us to grow as a follower of Christ.  The people that we surround ourselves with should carry themselves in a way that mirrors the way Christ lived.  They show respect to those around them and will offer protection to us in the times we need it.  These friends will not leave us in our times of need, but instead will come closer and pull us back up to our feet so that we are able to continue moving forward as followers of Christ.

These readings also say that although we can surround ourselves with many acquaintances, we must be wary as to whom we let get closest to us.  This is not a suggestion that should make us overly skeptical, but it is an idea that we should take into consideration when we choose who we want to associate with.  We should be careful to choose those that not only will allow us to grow as an individual in Christ’s image, but also allow us the opportunity to have the same impact on them.  As Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”.  This growth is what we should seek in the friends we surround ourselves with.

God Bless
