“The Lord speaks of peace to his people”

We’ve all had those days, when sometimes it feels like the weight of the world rests on your shoulders and no one is there to share the burden with you. During hard times, it can be easy to sink into a mood of feeling lonely and down on yourself.

Today’s readings focus on this concept of God giving peace to the weary and the isolated. If I’m feeling lonely, my first reaction is usually to surround myself with friends and family. However, Saint Paul’s letter to the Ephesians provides another solution to isolation… finding God’s peace.  He offers us an opportunity to be one with him, united in love. The reading is a wonderful reminder to step away from our daily lives and reconnect with God, as time spent with him can bring so much inner peace. It’s easy to forget how much we are LOVED, and how God can calm the rough storms of life with his peace if we welcome him into our hearts.

Saint Paul goes on to say, “in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” This week, I am going to try to be conscious of this idea that God dwells in me: with his presence, we are never alone, and his peace can work its way into our lives.
