Here we are in the middle of Advent … The daily readings from Isaiah have provided a focus, namely, the coming of the Messiah.
Along with that foretelling, Isaiah attempts to encourage the personal preparation of the Chosen People. Since God has established a covenant with this people, they are to live lives worthy of this loving agreement. God also promises the strength to accomplish what is asked.
The three verses of the Gospel reading give hope to us who are living out the new covenant established in Jesus. The figurative yoke and burden of the trials and difficulties of everyday life can only be made easy and light through our love of God, neighbor, and self. We also are strengthened by the presence and working of Jesus in our lives. The seeming “coincidences,” the occasions of “everything falling into place” are evidences of Divine Providence at work.
So here we are in the middle of Advent … It is a good time to take stock of the presence and working of Jesus in our lives.
