The name of the Lord is Jesus and this name is “Yahweh saves.” How am I being saved from exhalting myself inside my heart today, through an attitude that betrays a fearfulness of really being human, of really embracing the truth that I am lowly? If I pull away from living out of this truth, I inevitably create unnecessary pain for myself and for others because I foster the illusion that I am not needy, frail and unable to save myself from __________? What am I afraid of anyway?
In the Incarnation Jesus comes dependent on Mary and on the Father’s love to reveal that our humanity is beautiful in lowliness. Whatever attitude in me does not believe this, ironically, must be named. These attitudes of heart become the substance for my repentance this Advent. Only then can I taste and see again and again the beauty of my humanity in Beauty, in Jesus, that lowly babe.
