Sixth Sunday of Easter
Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
Grant, almighty God,
that we may celebrate with heartfelt devotion these days of joy,
which we keep in honor of the risen Lord,
and that what we relive in remembrance
we may always hold to in what we do.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. *

Today's Readings
Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48; Psalms 98:1, 2-3, 3-4; 1 John 4:7-10; John 15:9-17

Daily Meditation:

The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.

As the prayer says, that in "these days of joy,"
"we relive in remembrance" with a desire
to hold to it "in what we do."

Peter and the others marvel that the Holy Spirit is given to Gentiles
and they are faithful to the Spirit's lead.

Jesus tells us to "love one another as I love you."

We can reflect today, asking for an openness to the work of the Spirit
within us and among us, and that we will be faithful to the Spirit's lead.
And, we can ask for the grace to really appreciate and be grateful for
how much our Lord has loved us, so that we can ask for a grace
to live out that same love for our brothers and sisters.

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain. John 15

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
God the almighty Father raised Jesus as the firstborn from the dead, and made him our Savior.
Let us call upon him, saying:

Give us, Lord, the glory of your Son.

All-holy Father, you brought your beloved Son Jesus from the darkness of death into the splendor of your glory,
- bring us also into your marvelous light.

You have given us faith to save us,
- may we live by the faith of our baptism.

You command us to seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at your right hand,
- do not let us be deceived by the allurements of sin.

May our life, hidden with Christ in you, our Father, shine before the world,
- foreshadowing a new heaven and a new earth.

Closing Prayer:
My brother, Jesus,
It is hard for me to comprehend that you chose me.
I know how flawed and imperfect I really am,
and yet each day you choose me again as your friend.

You call me to love others in the same way you love me.
That is where the faith you have given me
offers me the hope to believe that you pour out your love on me.
Bring me into your marvelous light
and help me to be fruitful in this world and to care for those
who are forgotten and discarded.
Help me to love as you love.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
Grant, O merciful God,
that we may experience at all times
the fruit produced by the paschal observances.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. *

Today's Readings
Acts 16:11-15; Psalms 149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6a & 9b; John 15:26-16:4a

Daily Meditation:

The Lord takes delight in his people.

In our prayer, we ask for the "fruit produced by the paschal observance,"
the fruit which comes from our reflection on this Easter season.

Paul arrives at Philippi and his message is received by Lydia and her husband.
We ask for the grace to remain open to hearing God's Word to us
and that we might respond generously.

Jesus continues to tell his disciples and us that he will send us an Advocate,
the Holy Spirit, the Gatherer, who will testify - give witness - to Jesus for us,
so that we can give witness to Jesus for others.
He tells us this so that we won't become deterred in our mission
by the ultimate rejection we will encounter in our world
for witnessing to him.

We can ask for the courage, strength and trust we need.

The Spirit of truth will testify to me, says the Lord,
and you also will testify. John 15

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
God the Father was glorified in the death and resurrection of his Son.
Let us pray to him with confidence, saying:

Lord, enlighten our minds.

Father of lights, you bathed the world in splendor when Christ rose again in glory,
- fill our minds today with the light of faith.

Through the resurrection of your Son you opened for us the way to eternal life,
- as we work today sustain us with the hope of glory.

Through your risen son you sent the Holy Spirit into the world,
- set our hearts on fire with spiritual love.

May Jesus Christ, who was crucified to set us free,
- be today our salvation and redemption.

Closing Prayer:
Loving Jesus,
Lydia opened her heart to pay attention and her response
was to invite you to "stay at my home."
Today, open my heart so I can pay closer attention
to your constant and loving presence in my life.
I long to invite you to come and stay in my home,
as you invite me to live in you.

My heart is filled with Easter hope
and I exult in your glory and sing for joy.
Let me open my eyes to look for the Spirit
you send to us from the Father
who will set our hearts on fire with your love.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
Grant, almighty and merciful God,
that we may in truth receive a share
in the Resurrection of Christ your Son.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. *

Today's Readings
Acts 16:22-34; Psalms 138:1-2ab, 2cde-3, 7c-8; John 16:5-11

Daily Meditation:

Your right hand saves me, O Lord.

We ask to "receive a share" in the gift of life in Jesus.

The jailer in Philippi witnesses God's liberating power on behalf of Paul and Silus
and opens his heart to their message and God's saving mercy.

Jesus sends us the Holy Spirit to reveal the world's ways of rejecting him.
We ask for the grace to let the Spirit into our hearts
as we continue on this Easter journey
with discerning hearts, on fire with his love.

But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you. John 16

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
The spotless Lamb of God takes away the sins of the world.
Let us give thanks to the Father, and say:

Source of all life, raise us to life.

Source of all life, remember the death and resurrection of the Lamb slain on the cross.
- listen to his voice as he lives for ever, making intercession for us.

Now that the old leaven of wickedness and evil is destroyed,
- may we always feed on the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Grant that today we may put aside all friction and jealousy,
- and show greater concern for the needs of others.

Send into our hearts the spirit of the Gospel,
- that we may walk in the way of your commandments, today and forever.

Closing Prayer:
Jesus, source of all life,
Paul and Silas were in prison, yet they prayed
and sang hymns to you, while other prisoners listened.
The earthquake not only shook the ground,
but the beliefs of the jailer
and his heart was opened in a new way.

Lead me to sing the hymns of my belief in you
even when I feel alone and imprisoned.
Fill my mind with the light of faith
and my soul with the fire of your love.
Bless me this day with a heart free of jealousy and friction
and a life open to the needs of others.
I give thanks in your name!

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
Grant, we pray, O Lord,
that, as we celebrate in mystery
the solemnities of your Son’s Resurrection,
so, too, we may be worthy
to rejoice at his coming with all the Saints.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
*

Today's Readings
Acts 17:15, 22-18:1; Psalms 148:1-2, 11-12, 13, 14; John 16:12-15

Daily Meditation:

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

We ask to "be worthy to rejoice at his coming."

In Athens, Paul receives a cold reception when he speaks of Jesus' resurrection.

Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit is a spirit of truth and will guide us,
leading us "to all truth."

As we reflect today, we can ask for the grace to trust in
the guidance of the Holy Spirit for our lives.

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth." John 16

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
By the gift of the Father, the risen Christ was seen by the apostles.
Let us pray to the Father, and say:

Give us, Lord, the glory of your Son.

Father of lights, today we offer you our thanks and praise for calling us into your marvelous light,
- to receive your mercy.

May the efforts of mankind to make the world more human,
- be purified and strengthened by the power of your Spirit.

May we be so dedicated to the service of others,
- that the whole human family may become a pleasing sacrifice in your honor.

At the dawn of a new day, fill us with your mercy,
- that the whole day may be a day of joy and praise.

Closing Prayer:
My brother, Jesus,
The ancient words give me
joy and strength:
"In him we live and move and have our being."
I know that I live in you and you give life and breath to everything.
Your Spirit inspires me to seek God and search for you
groping and finding you.

In my seeking for you, I want to offer thanks and praise
for being called into the light of your mercy.
May my life today be dedicated to serving others
and may my day be one of joy and praise to you.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Daily Easter Prayer

Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter.

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

For those dioceses in the U.S. celebrating the Solemnity of the Ascension today, use this Daily Prayer.

For the Thursday, 6th Week of Easter, use this page.

Collect:

O God, who made your people
partakers in your redemption,
grant, we pray,
that we may perpetually render thanks
for the Resurrection of the Lord.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. *

Today's Readings
Acts 18:1-8; Psalms 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4; John 16:16-20

Daily Meditation:

A little while and you will no longer see me, and again a little while later and you will see me.

Amen, Amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices;
you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. John 16

We give God thanks for allowing us to be partners in our redemption.
And we look forward to celebrating the gift of life, forever.

Today we can ask for the grace to experience the joy
which Jesus promises us,
in a world that does not see or know the freedom
and eternal life he has won for us.

One night in a vision the Lord said to Paul,
“Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent,
for I am with you." Acts 18

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
The Lord has been lifted high above the earth and draws all things to himself.
Let us cry out to him in our joy:

Lord Jesus, you are the King of glory.

Lord Jesus, King of glory, you were offered once as the victim for sins, and ascended to the right hand of the Father,
- make perfect for all time those whom you sanctify.

Eternal Priest and minister of the new Covenant, you live for ever to make intercession for us,
- save the people that prays to you.

You showed yourself alive after your passion and appeared to the disciples for forty days,
- confirm our faith today.

Today you promised the Spirit to your apostles, to make them your witnesses to the ends of the earth,
- by the power of the Spirit strengthen our own witness.

Closing Prayer:
My heart is filled with joy, Loving God
as I sing your praise.
You have done such wonders in my life
and made me a part of your redemption.

Sing your song in me today, my God
and guide me in the darkness
when I do not see you with me.
Strengthen my faith and my witness of you
as I wait to see you in my life again.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
O God, who restore us to eternal life
in the Resurrection of Christ,
raise us up, we pray, to the author of our salvation,
who is seated at your right hand,
so that, when our Savior comes again in majesty,
those you have given new birth in Baptism
may be clothed with blessed immortality.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. *

Today's Readings
Acts 18:9-18; Psalms 47:2-3, 4-5, 6-7; John 16:20-23

Daily Meditation:

I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,
and no one will take your joy away from you.
On that day you will not question me about anything. John 16

We ask to be raised up and to be clothed with
"blessed immortality" to the "author of our salvation."

Today we can ask for the growing desire to know
that joy Jesus promises - a joy no one can take away from us.
"Give me that joy, O Lord. I really want to be open to it and receive it."

And, let us ask for the grace to be enabled to share that joy with others.

Christ had to suffer and to rise from the dead,
and so enter into his glory. Luke 24

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
Christ ascended into heaven to send the Holy Spirit on the apostles.
Let us join with one voice in praising him and say:

Send us your Spirit

Lord Jesus, you ascended into heaven; send us the promise of the Father,
- that we may be clothed with power from on high.

Your disciples were to be as wise as serpents and as simple as doves,
- through your Spirit teach us prudence and simplicity.

You are seated at the right hand of the Father; pray for us as our Priest,
- and pray in us as our Head.

Grant that in every trial we may suffer with you,
- and so be glorified with you.

Closing Prayer:
Loving Jesus,
You promise tha
t I will see you again
and that my heart will rejoice.
Hold me close in my fears and give me the courage
to live my life openly as your witness.

You say to me: "Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you."
I ask that your presence in my life gives me the courage
to live out your gospel with my life
and to shout cries of gladness as my heart rejoices.
I ask that in every trial in my life, I have the grace
to suffer with you and for you.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Daily Easter Prayer

“Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.”

Collect:
O God, whose Son, at his Ascension to the heavens,
was pleased to promise the Holy Spirit to the Apostles,
grant, we pray,
that, just as they received manifold gifts of heavenly teaching,
so on us, too, you may bestow spiritual gifts.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. *

Today's Readings
Acts 18:23-28; Psalms 47:2-3, 8-9, 10; John 16:23b-28

Daily Meditation:

Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name;
ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. John 16

We pray to receive the gift of the promised Holy Spirit,
which the Apostles received and which we so need today.

So, today, we take Jesus at his word and ask the Father in his name
to give us the many gifts of the Spirit.
We ask for the peace that only his Spirit can give.
And, we ask for the fire of his love, the sign of his Spirit's presence
among us.

Today's Daily Reflection

Intercessions:
Let us praise the Lord Jesus, anointed by the Holy Spirit, and pray:

You are seated at the right hand of the Father; make intercession for us.

Christ our Lord, look with favor on all who are called by your name,
- and gather them in unity by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Give light to those who suffer for your sake,
- that they may know what to say when faced with their persecutors.

You are the true vine; may all acknowledge you,
- and become your branches, bearing fruit in the Spirit.

King of all the world, you ascended to heaven in triumph,
- rule over all peoples.

May those who in baptism were made one with you in rising again,
- pass with you from death to life.

Closing Prayer:
Jesus, center of my life,
You call me to ask for whatever I need in your name.
I feel how the Father loves me
and trust in the Spirit in my life bringing unity and light.

I ask in your name today for strength like Paul's
who spread your good news to the world.
My joy will be complete when my heart is on fire with yours
and I can bear fruit in the face of joy or suffering.
I long to have your Spirit guide me in this day.

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
