Sts. Timothy and Titus fascinated me so I looked up their lives. Each was a missionary with Paul. Later each was appointed an Administrator of his Christian Community: Timothy for the Ephesians and Titus for Crete. In Paul’s letter he reminds them of the Holy Spirits’ gift of faith. Timothy’s faith is mentioned from his Grandmother, Lois and Mother, Eunice. We have heard the phrase, “the faith of our ancestors”. To whom do you attribute your gift of faith? My father, Dr. Ben, had a deep and alive faith and gave it to his children. Paul exhorted Timothy to: Abraham Heschel, Hebrew theologian of the '60s, said “FAITH IS A VERB”. I think that is another way of saying Paul’s “stir into flame…” Our lives are meant to reflect our faith. During Christmas I was speaking with a friend who suffers the death of a son. He took his own life. I asked her, “How do you get through your harsh, sad, angry, etc. moments? MY FAITH HELPS ME”, she replied. That speaks volumes to me of her faith, courage, hope and love. She lives her Faith daily and intentionally. Just this month we remember Dr. Martin Luther King in the United States. He is one of my Faith Heroes. Who is one of your faith heroes/heroines? Be a vibrant person of faith. Believe in God. Experience God. Reflect on your experience of God. Act as a Person of Living Faith. |
