Of all the books and verses in the Bible, perhaps John 3:16 epitomizes the truth of Christianity most succinctly. Just let it sink in: “God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” Jesus Christ came to this world and died on the cross for you, for me, for every person who has ever walked this earth. He became sin so that he could share in our humanity and save us.

Clearly, God loves us more than we could ever fathom. His love is so deep that he looks beyond our human flaws and sees our true hearts. His is a redemptive love that upon first look makes me feel horribly insufficient, but eventually I am consumed by its truth. As we journey through this beautiful Easter season, celebrating what it means to be loved by the Lord, let us remember not how human we are but rather let us look to the cross and resurrection and remember how great our God is. We have an infinitely personal God who knows us intimately and who is a source of great hope and rejoicing.

God’s love is an inspiration, a love that conquers even sin.

Father, I pray that I may emulate your love. Fill me with the light of the Holy Spirit so I may reveal the truth of the resurrection and your unfailing love. In the midst of suffering, help me to turn to you and rejoice in your love. Amen.
