The Daily Reflections

“Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” John 6:27

I wake up every day go to school, do work, and stay active. Most of what I do centers on the focus to make money or in preparation for a future profession. I use the money that I earn to buy food, clothing and all other material items that are necessary to sustain life at the moment. In the future, outside of college, I will use the money to support my family and myself. However, money, food, and clothes are not the primary things that I should be focusing on in life. While they may be useful in the moment, these items are only useful to me while I am present on this earth.

What about my faith and the religious aspect of my life? That is the area that needs more work and attention and will sustain even beyond the bodily world. Jesus throughout the readings emphasizes that it is not the material food obtained on earth that is important for sustaining eternal life. Rather the food that sustains for eternal life is obtained by the Son of Man. Faith, prayer and the works of God are what I need to focus my attention on. By following the law of the Lord as mentioned in the Psalms and assisting all the people of the world as God wishes me to I can move closer toward receiving eternal sustenance. Although material foods such as bread and water may sustain us for the time being, it is God that will give us the food necessary to sustain us for eternal life!
