Since then, he has been living the message of today’s reading from
A lifelong educator, Fr. Schlegel has been showing all of us how to turn our lives and our fears over to God through his public appearances, homilies posted online and numerous interviews. I’ve become one of his devoted students. Every morning in the gym, I review the day’s garden-variety worries but until now, I’ve never made a conscious effort to turn them over to God. Now I’m trying to do so. I had to go, of course, since we have been friends for 40 years and saw each other almost every morning in the gym while he was president. However I feared saying goodbye because that’s what it would be. Then I saw God’s grace in action, not only in the way that Fr. Schlegel put his friends at ease but in his graceful and humorous homily to the students. God is with us. What should we fear? Love our brothers and sisters now and turn the rest over to the Lord. |
