Praying Lent The Second Week of Lent - 41 min. - Text Transcript |
A Mardi Gras Prayer... |
Jesus said to his disciples: I write this as the Lenten season begins. Luke’s gospel is rich and provides an opportunity to examine my own heart and conscious. What is my relationship with God and people who have been purposely placed in my life? Do I value these relationships? If so how do I communicate my gratefulness? Why am I quick to judge and criticize? Recently at work we were discussing these very issues. A situation occurred and a series of events followed. A quick display of anger, a condemning email, a gathering of colleagues or ‘posse’ to quickly share the event. In reflection I ask ...What is this really about? I look within and become aware that this ‘judgment’ of others ….is to sooth my own sense of failure, to reaffirm my own importance, and to gain back a sense of control. Self-centered motives. All un-needed in God’s eyes. For God loves me in all my imperfectness. I in turn need to share that love with others during times of "imperfectness." We are human and today’s powerful message is a reminder of our own imperfect human-ness. I am grateful for God’s forgiveness and the forgiveness others extend to me when I sin. The ability to forgive and extend an olive branch translates to caring, compassion, and love. I am grateful for that love. |
