Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) A survey of the activities at the 28 Jesuit Colleges and Universities is presented on the AJCU website "Remembering the Jesuit Martyrs: How Jesuit Campuses are Marking the 20th Anniversary" This e-magazine (PDF version also available)details some of the commemorations that are occurring on Jesuit campuses around the United States. THE MARTYRS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL AMERICA AND THEIR INFLUENCE 20 YEARS LATER THE DANGEROUS MEMORY OF THE UCA MARTYRS HOW EL SALVADOR WRECKED MY FAITH Boston College Jon Sobrino, SJ, has spent most of his adult life in El Salvador teaching at the University of Central America, a Jesuit institution that he helped found. In this lecture he discusses the "inspiration of Christianity on the university." Robert White, president of the Center for International Policy and former U.S. ambassador to El Salvador and Paraguay, gives the keynote speech for a symposium commemorating those assassinations and discussing current human rights issues. He speaks of his experience as ambassador to El Salvador in the 1980s, and the conflicts between the embassy and State Department that ultimately led to his leaving the foreign service. There will multiple events throughout the year commemorating not just the martyrs killed in El Salvador but martyrs around the world.
